Why have I chosen Blogger.com for this blog? That's a question...
What is the best Blog technology for bloggers?
Really, I don't know because all sites mentioned above offer similar good services and it depends only on your specific needs why you need to create a blog, what are your priorities, if you need a personal blog or business blog for your company. Many professional blogs are based on WordPress publishing software, most of bloggers prefer their own hosting space with installation of any publishing software because it can be fully maintained and customized.
I don't seem to remember why I've started with Blogger.com but probably it was because many of my friends and favourite technology blogs I read every day are hosted on Blogger.com platform, some of them looks really good, with fully customized design and with a Custom Domain Name configured.
(By default your new blog on Blogger.com has a domain in format xyz.blogspot.com, but you can change it and forward the long name to your own specific domain. So, you need register and pay only the domain name but not any hosting fees.)
Free Web Templates for Blogger.com (Blogspot.com):
When I started this blog on Blogger.com portal I first registered my custom domain MyTechnologyTips.com and then have tried to find a new design template for this blog because the integrated list of templates seems to me very limited. Fortunately, there are many excellent Free Templates available for download and the integration with Blogger.com is very simple (menu Layout - Pick New Template).

Maybe the following description will be helpful to all readers who need to download video from YouTube portal and convert it to other formats, e.g. from .FLV format to .AVI, .AMV or .WMV formats, which can be used in MP4 players or other devices.
(Note: Don't forget you can download only your own videos or free public videos available for public download.)
How to download video from YouTube?
There are available many helpful freeware utilities or extensions for Firefox, but sometimes they doesn't work properly, so one of my favourites is VDownloader, which is able to download video as well as to convert it to .AVI or .MPG formats:
- VDownloader"VDownloader can download and convert videos from Youtube, Google Video, Metacafe, MySpace, DailyMotion, Yuvutu, and many other similar sites, saving them in AVI or MPG."
If you don't want to download and install the local application then you can try one of the following Web services where the video from YouTube can be downloaded via Web portal. The only problem is that all Web services are overloaded and they don't have very good response time:

How to convert YouTube video from .FLV format?
This step could be skipped if the previously mentioned online video downloaders & convertors would be functioning properly or wouldn't be overloaded every day. Otherwise we have only downloaded video file from YouTube in .FLV format, which can be used only by a FLV Player.
The following FLV Converter can be used if you want to convert .FLV video to .AVI or other formats:

Casablanca is one of the all time classics. It is a story of love and courage set in Casablanca during WWII. The stars in this wonderful film are Ingrid Bergman as Ilsa, and Humphrey Bogart as Rick.

His impact on the other patients is profound, ending with a completely sane Indian man making an escape to freedom.
In The Shawshank Redemtion, Andy (Tim Robbins) has been sent to Shawshank prison, wrongly convicted of killing his wife. Inside Shawshank he forms a powerful friendship with fellow prisoner Red (Morgan Freeman). He refuses to give up, and his decent spirit helps improve the lives of his fellow prisoners. His escape, and Red’s release see the two reunite outside of prison, in Mexico, when Andy’s grand plan is finally fulfilled.

However, most people cannot access or afford proper health care such as healthy sanitation and hygiene, which is necessary to prevent the spread of disease.
Moreover, a large proportion of the global population are disenfranchised because of poverty, geographic location, disability, or social stigma against those who are ill. In addition, sexual health continues to be a highly contentious issue around the world particularly with concern to the method of transmission of some of the world's deadliest diseases such as HIV/AIDS. Furthermore, one of the most pressing issues in terms of health and wellness is the education, prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS. The Millennium Development Goals seek to address this issue specifically in Goal 5: Improve maternal health and Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases.
While people of all ages should maintain good health, young people face special challenges as they transition from childhood to adulthood. With the onset of puberty, the body changes to accommodate physical and emotional growth, but it also marks one of the most vulnerable stages in a young person's life. During this time, females tend to struggle more than males with body image and self-esteem issues which can lead to dangerous eating disorders and even death. On the other hand substance abuse, depression, self-mutilation and suicide have higher incident rates in males than females and if left untreated these health concerns may lead to permanent mental and physical damage.
Given that everyone’s body and medical history is different, it is important to be aware of what makes you sick and even what makes you feel better on a personal level.
There is extensive international research documenting the ways in which the health status of individuals or groups is significantly determined by social and economic conditions as well as by therapeutic care or personal health behaviours. Social determinants of health (SDOH) are social and economic conditions that influence the health of individuals and communities. A wealthof research on SDOH provides evidence that: health follows a social gradient; stress damages health; the health impacts of early development and education lasts a lifetime; poverty and social exclusion cost lives; stress in the workplace increases the risk of disease; job security improves health;unemployment causes illness and premature death; social supports and supportive networks improve health; alcohol, drug and tobacco use are influenced by the social setting; healthy food is a political issue; and healthy transport means walking and cycling and good public transport. Other basic determinants of health, such as genetics, interact with SDOH to present a broad overview of whysome individuals and communities are healthy while others are not.
In 2002, Canadian researchers, policy-makers and community representatives gathered together at a conference entitled “The Social Determinants of Health Across the Life-Span” to comment upon and discuss the current state and healthimplications of key SDOH in Canada. The conference produced “The TorontoCharter for a Healthy Canada” which identified ten key SDOH for Canadians as recognized in Health Canada and World Health Organization (WHO) documents. The ten determinants, in alphabetical order, include: early life; education; employment and working conditions; food security; health services; housing; income and income distribution; social in/exclusion; the social safety net (including contributions from the voluntary and community sector); and unemployment and job security. SDOH are directly related to the ways in which resources are organized and distributed among the members of a society.
Sustainable health and wellness is not only part of our survival but it is also a continuously rewarding way to live out our entire lives.

While most people share the same desires for freedom, respect, security, equality, and justice, the actual language and philosophy of human rights has been criticized to be on the basis of cultural imperialism practicing the authority of Western European and North American cultural values and practices.
The achievement of human rights for all is an ongoing battle, but there are numerous grassroots and non-governmental organizations dedicated to its development. Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch are established and effective international organizations, but there are many more players on the local level. It is the role of citizens, communities, grassroots organizations, and governments, as well as the United Nations, to prevent human rights violations, raise awareness of human rights and responsibilities, secure respect for all human rights, and promote international cooperation to protect human rights

Perhaps it is the balance of all three that defines education? While our answers may differ, we can perhaps agree that education is a basic human right. When that right is granted growth and development, the society as a whole is more likely to improve in areas such as health, nutrition, general income and living standards and population fertility rates.
The information in this section will prompt you to think about some very important issues surrounding the topic of education. As global citizens of the world it is our responsibility to critically think about these issues and attempt to come up with solutions to the problems plaguing education. In 1990 UNESCO launched EFA, the movement to provide quality education for all children, youth, and adults by the year 2015. Seventeen years later much progress still needs to be made if we are to achieve the goal for 2015. The unfortunate reality is that for many countries, larger issues precede improving the quality of education. How can we achieve the goals of EFA when numerous countries around the world are faced with challenges that seem far too impossible to overcome?
The answer lies in attempting to bridge some of the gaps that prevent developing nations to compete with developed nations. One example is that of providing greater access to technology and narrowing the ever widening digital divide. In many ways the most basic access to technology can serve as a valuable educational tool. Individuals who are not afforded this access are at a disadvantage when trying to grasp opportunities to make life better for themselves, their families, and their community.
Another issue that poses a barrier to widespread development is that of literacy. There still remains a rather larger percentage of illiterate youth and adults in many nations around the world. Economic difficulty and lack of education get in the way of decreasing illiteracy rates. As you will learn in the following sections, literacy is no longer simply limited to reading and writing.
There are many different capacities in which an individual living in the twenty-first century can be literate. Helping to strengthen skills in other areas, can still help to make progress on sustaining the development of a nation, as well as achieve gender equality. The gender gap in education points to the fact that females are still not afforded the same opportunities as males. In many parts of the world cultures see no value in educating females. Two of the eight Millennium Development Goals, achieving universal primary education and promoting gender equality, seek to close the gaps that exist in the education around the world. If we can make some advancement on achieving these goals, we can further the progress on the remaining six. Education is the foundation for the success of any given society. Numerous studies have shown the correlation between education and lower birth rates, lower infant mortality rates and fewer maternal deaths. Furthermore, a more educated population will also result in higher personal incomes as we all expand access to financial opportunities.
In summary therefore, education does not only encourage personal development but also provides a place for people to interact, socialize, and unify their societies.

Technology has helped to expand the scope and depth of education across borders. Educational technology has enabled students to access more information and connect with more people than ever before. Learning can now be more individualized and students can access resources that will enable them to drive their own learning.
Computer aided instruction, or e-learning, can be used in and out of the classroom. Distance learning, computer-based training, and social networking tools are just a few examples. The immediate responsiveness of computer based programs, and the self-paced, private learning environment can help increase student motivation and inspire students to make connections with others who students who share similar interests. Entire classes can participate in video conferences through the use of multimedia technology. Tools like TIGed can help classrooms around the world collaborate and work on projects together. Implementing such tools in the classroom aids in addressing the pressing need for today’s youth to be more aware of their global environment.
Educational technology has also served to support students who were once taken out of the classroom to receive individualized learning services. The need to accommodate students out of the classroom can be reduced as some tools can be employed directly in the classroom. Word processors for students with motor deficits and portable dictating machines for students with memory deficits are just two examples. Educational technology has accommodated students with severe physical disabilities in public schools. Computers can monitor eye gaze, detect a blink of an eye, respond to student breathing, and respond accordingly, thus allowing students to participate in classroom activities alongside their classmates.
The use of technology inside the classroom, however, has not always been greeted with optimism. While some educators highlight the significance of human interaction when introducing new concepts to pupils, others view technology as simply another medium - much like television and radio - through which traditional schooling can manifest its teachings.

10 Tips for Technology Management

No.1: There's a lot of set-it-and-forget-it mentality in intrusion-prevention system marketing, and it's dangerous," says David Newman, president of testing facility Network Test and a Network World Lab Alliance member.
Fuzzing, in which the exploit is changed just enough for the security mechanism to miss it, trips up many IPSs, Network World's recent IPS test showed.
Network managers need to understand how each exploit works and how their IPS detects them, and then upgrade that protection routinely.
No. 2: Sell security by its benefits.
Start selling security to the purse-holders the way you do all other technology investments -- in measurable terms that relate to the business, recommends Mandy Andress, president of testing facility ArcSec Technologies and a Network World Lab Alliance member. Rather than saying how dangerous viruses are as a method to gain the budget for a reputation services antispam defense, for example, illustrate how much productivity could be gained by adding another layer of antispam control.
No. 3: Automate desktop and network access.
Wireless badges can come in handy for automated access control to desktop PCs, particularly those shared by multiple users in medical exam rooms, warehouses, call centers and the like.
For example, Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group implemented Ensure Technologies' XyLoc MD, which uses 900MHz radio-frequency technology encoded on staff ID badges for authentication, says Guy Fuller, IT manager at the Chicago healthcare organization. This saves the staff time while ensuring that network access and sensitive information are not available to other users.
No. 4: Link physical access to enterprise applications.
IP-based building-access systems built on industry-standard servers and using the existing data network are more affordable than ever because of open architecture products. Advances in server-management technology mean these systems not only are deployable by network (rather than the physical security) staff but are centrally manageable. Plus, they can integrate with ERP applications and network access-control systems.
Georgia-Pacific, a US$20 billion paper manufacturer in Atlanta, is rolling out Automated Management Technologies' WebBrix, an IP-based building-access system, to the majority of its 400 locations. IT used WebBrix's open application interface to write a custom application called Mysecurity that integrates the system with SAP, among other duties. When employees swipe their badges to gain access to the building, they also are sending data to SAP for time and attendance tracking, says Steven Mobley, senior systems analyst at Georgia-Pacific.
No. 5: Delegate an operating systems guru.
"Operating systems configuration can seem to some like a black art," says Tom Henderson, principle researcher for testing facility ExtremeLabs and a Network World Lab Alliance member. Setting the wrong combination is bad news. For example, large memory-block move options can affect the amount of dirty cache with which the operating system must deal, he says. If memory/caching options are balanced incorrectly, the machine could freeze. By assigning a staffer to master the voluminous documentation published by mainstream operating system vendors, servers can be safely fine-tuned to optimal performance for every application. The guru also should master Web server and BIOS setting options.
No. 6: Use VMware server memory smartly.
Without spending a dime, you may be able to boost the amount of memory available on virtualized Windows 2003 physical servers, thereby improving performance of the virtual machines. If all the virtual machines on the same physical box need the same memory-resident code, such as a dynamic link library (DLL), you can load the DLL once into the physical server's main memory and share that DLL with all virtual machines, says Wendy Cebula, COO at VistaPrint, an international online printer with U.S. operations headquartered in Lexington, Mass. "We've gotten big memory usage benefits by caching once per physical box rather than once per usage," she says.
No. 7: Move applications to a Linux grid.
If you have compute-intensive mainframe applications, don't shy away from lower-cost alternatives such as grid computing because the applications were written in COBOL, says Brian Cucci, manager of the Advanced Technology Group at Atlanta-based UPS, which has such a grid. The application will likely have to be redesigned somewhat for the new hardware platform. But vendors can be counted on to help, as they'll want to ally on the new technology.
No. 8: Recognize WAN links may degrade VoIP QoS.
This is particularly true in areas of the country where the public infrastructure is aging, says Bruce Bartolf, principal and CTO of architecture firm Gensler, in San Francisco. Having completed VoIP installation at seven of 35 sites, Bartolf found unexpectedly high error rates or complete failure on many links. To provide the kind of uptime and quality demanded of phone service, you need to design with alternative failover paths on the WAN. Cable may not be much better, but Metro Ethernet, if available, could work well, he says.
No. 9: Ease IP management with an appliance.
Although the tasks that appliances perform can be done with each vendor's gear, "with something as important as IP management, if you don't do it well, you can really hurt your five-nines," Gensler's Bartolf says. He chose Infoblox appliances, which manage numerous tasks, including Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) firmware upgrades. "Rather than dealing with Microsoft distributed file system, loading a TFTP server on a Microsoft server, running DHCP on a Microsoft server, running SMS on top of that, and managing it all, I have an appliance," he says. "I put it in, and it works."
No. 10: Shelve the fancy visuals.
"We found it highly impractical to make our monitoring visual," VistaPrint's Cebula says. VistaPrint relies on remote monitoring to manage its data centers, including one in Bermuda. It uses homegrown tools to track everything from CPU usage to event correlation. Visual graphing of events slowed down detection and analysis, taking network operations staff an average of five to seven minutes per event to use, Cebula says. When the tools used simple red, yellow and green lights, detection and correlation dropped to one or two minutes per event, she says.
And don't forget to keep your monitoring tools on at all times and run spot checks, advises Barry Nance, independent consultant and Network Lab Alliance member. The most common mistake is not to turn them on until an event occurs.
